Beef Protein – patented HydroBeef™ hydrolysate with up to 93 % protein and no allergens

Beef Protein contains the patented beef protein hydrolysate HydroBeef™, a popular alternative to dairy proteins. It is the only protein ingredient in the formula, allowing the powder to contain up to 93 % protein.

One 30 g scoop provides your body with up to 28 g protein, which supports muscle growth and maintenance. It contains no more than 0,5 g fat and 0,5 g carbohydrates, so protein accounts for 94 % of its energy value. It contains no lactose or milk protein at all, making it an option for anyone avoiding dairy ingredients.

The ingredient was developed by the Danish company Essentia Protein Solutions, and its trademark is licensed by AMPC. This is not an anonymous beef powder, but an ingredient with its own specification and a traceable manufacturer. It comes from sources in the European Union and carries Halal certification. This confirms that both the ingredient and its production comply with Islamic rules on diet, including the prescribed method of animal slaughter and separation from prohibited ingredients throughout processing. Compliance is monitored by an independent certification body.

Does beef protein work as well as whey protein?

A meta-analysis of seven randomised controlled trials compared beef and whey protein in people who also trained while taking them. It found no difference in muscle gain or fat loss between the two sources.1 Compared with a group taking no protein supplement at all, beef protein increased both muscle mass and lower-body strength.1

Whey protein contains more leucine, the amino acid that most strongly stimulates muscle protein synthesis. It therefore works faster in the first few hours after training. After several weeks, however, the difference in results disappears, because what matters is total daily protein intake, not how quickly a single serving acts.1

Where beef protein has the edge

Beef Protein offers four features worth comparing with whey protein.

  • No milk and no lactose. It is not a dairy protein, so it contains not even traces of lactose. Whey concentrate contains 4 to 8 g per 100 g.
  • Higher protein content. Up to 93 % compared with 85 to 90 % in isolate and 70 to 80 % in concentrate.
  • Less fat and sugar. No more than 1,7 g fat and 0,5 g sugars per 100 g, while concentrate typically contains 5 to 8 g of each.
  • Halal certification. Rare among dairy proteins.

Gentle enzymatic breakdown, not acid hydrolysis

Protein can be broken down into shorter peptides in two ways, and the difference between them is crucial.

Acid hydrolysis is cheaper and faster. It uses a strong acid at a high temperature, but some amino acids are destroyed in the process. Tryptophan, for example, is almost completely broken down.

HydroBeef™ undergoes enzymatic hydrolysis. Enzymes break down protein chains in a targeted way at a mild temperature, preserving the amino acids. This can be verified through analysis: tryptophan is present in the amino acid profile, which would not be the case after acid hydrolysis.

This gentle breakdown has practical benefits too. The hydrolysate is soluble in water, so simply shake it in a shaker to create a creamy, lump-free drink. In practice, this means one thing. If you avoid milk, beef protein is a fully fledged alternative, not a compromise.

Where beef protein has the edge
Purity and quality checks for every batch

Every batch is tested by independent laboratories accredited to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for the competence of testing laboratories. Testing covers heavy metal content (lead, cadmium and mercury) using ICP-MS and microbiological purity. Full reports are openly available in the Laboratory Tests section on the product page.

Free from all major allergens

Beef Protein contains none of the 14 major allergens. As well as being milk-free, it contains no soy or gluten, which is unusual for such a concentrated source of protein.

One scoop provides around 115 kcal, almost all of which come from protein. This makes it a good fit for a weight-loss diet without taking up a large share of your daily calorie intake.

Who is Beef Protein suitable for?

1. You avoid milk proteins.
Whether because of lactose or for another reason. Beef Protein contains no milk or lactose, so you can include it even when whey protein is not an option.

2. You do strength training.
In an eight-week study, beef protein combined with strength training increased fat-free mass and reduced fat mass compared with a group taking no protein supplement.2

3. You eat less, perhaps because of GLP-1 products.
One scoop provides up to 28 g of protein in around 115 kcal, helping you maintain your protein intake even with small portions. This also makes it suitable for a routine that includes GLP-1 products.

4. You want to know what you are buying.
A patented ingredient with a traceable manufacturer, documented EU beef origin, Halal certification and laboratory reports for every batch.

5. You care about your bones, not just your muscles.
Protein contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.

    Flavor: chocolate, vanilla
Preparation requires a small trick that I experienced myself. I also read that several people gave it poor reviews because it was difficult to reach the final, properly consumable consistency. The key point is that on the very first attempt, I tried mixing cold milk and cold water, and it produced a very stiff foam. Yesterday, on the third attempt, I shook it in a shaker with warm water until it dissolved nicely, and then I added cold milk and let it sit. I prepared it right before my workout—it's possible to solve it easily with a bit of attention. The same applies to egg white as well. I chose both types because I am sensitive to lactose. I hope I was able to help…

It never melts. The percentage clings right from the start. Something isn’t good either.

The solubility of the protein is absolutely unacceptable. Yes, all Beef proteins dissolve a little more slowly, but this one is simply too much effort. I made it with a shaker, I tried it in a smoothie with milk and a banana in a blender—this stuff sticks horribly and just will not dissolve properly. In addition, it leaves a slightly unpleasant aftertaste if you drink it straight with water. Its macros are unique, that’s a fact, but that’s about it—there’s no other real plus. Before this, I used GymBeam’s bestseller “Just Whey,” and it was a hundred times better. I would recommend that one. Also, everything else aside, the “seal”-type packaging instead of a jar personally doesn’t appeal to me.

I bought it for a friend; at first he had to get used to the flavor, but it wasn’t a problem. The protein is a bit foamy, but we found that you don’t need to shake it—just stir it and the powder will dissolve nicely.

I generally do not particularly like white proteins with a chocolate flavor, but I really liked this one. I like it much more than whey protein.

Apart from the information on the label stating that it is a meat extract, there are doubts about it—and who would mix in an extract?

After the first test, I felt quite disappointed— it foams terribly, but really a lot. After a few shakes, it produces so much foam that further mixing is pointless and the foam does not go away. Then I tried less water, a smaller shaker, and more water. Sometimes there was unmixed protein left at the bottom of the shaker. It didn’t seem like anything significantly helped. I tried the final option: adding one measured scoop of powdered soy drink (zajíc) to the shaker. And would you believe it! No foam at all! Perfectly mixed with a light soy-milk flavor (some people may not like that). So I recommend adding a little powdered soy drink. The protein’s composition seems truly excellent, so it’s a shame to judge the protein only because of its foaming. As for the taste, it’s average (it can’t compete with Scitec in flavor). Rating: 1 star when mixed with water 4 stars when mixed with powdered soy drink
