Men's Essentials: 27 active ingredients in two tablets a day.
Which standardised extracts are included in the formula?

The extraction ratio tells you how much raw material was used. It does not tell you what ended up in the extract. After all, a plant is not a factory. Its active compound content varies depending on where it grows, the year and the harvest time, so two extracts with identical ratios can contain noticeably different amounts of the same compound. This is precisely what standardisation addresses: the manufacturer measures the amount of a specific compound and adjusts it to a guaranteed level. In Men's Essentials, three of the six extracts are standardised in this way. Grape seed extract to 95 % proanthocyanidins, providing 38 mg per daily dose. Bitter orange extract to 80 % hesperidin, providing 50 mg. And tomato extract to 5 % lycopene, providing 1 mg.

The 95 % figure is particularly noteworthy. Only the most concentrated grape seed extracts declare this level of proanthocyanidins; typical extracts contain around 40–70 %. Grape seed proanthocyanidins are among the most extensively studied plant polyphenols: a meta-analysis of 16 randomised controlled trials involving 810 participants,2 a more recent review of 19 controlled trials3 and a separate meta-analysis focusing on markers of oxidative stress and inflammation.4

Why does the formula include ginkgo, ginseng and saw palmetto?

Ginkgo biloba is such a well-established ingredient in Europe that the European Medicines Agency has its own monograph on the dry extract of its leaves.5 Two groups of compounds are responsible for its effects: flavonoid glycosides and terpene lactones, specifically ginkgolides and bilobalide. The most extensively studied form is the standardised extract EGb 761, which has been the subject of meta-analyses of randomised placebo-controlled trials.6 Our formula contains ginkgo at a ratio of 50:1, so 40 mg of extract is equivalent to two grams of leaves.

Red Korean ginseng is a classic of Asian herbal medicine, with ginsenosides responsible for its effects. A Cochrane review of nine double-blind randomised trials examined its effects on cognitive function,7 while separate studies explored perceived mental fatigue following a single dose of standardised extract.8 Our formula uses a ratio of 30:1, with 50 mg of extract equivalent to 1 500 mg of raw material.

Saw palmetto is the only extract in the formula derived from fruit, and it also accounts for the largest amount by weight. A ratio of 20:1 means that 80 mg of extract is derived from 1 600 mg of fruit.

One point needs to be made clear here. The doses used in these studies are higher than ours. Ginkgo research is largely based on 240 mg of extract per day, while grape seed extracts are tested at doses of two hundred to four hundred milligrams. Men's Essentials is a multivitamin, not a single-ingredient supplement. Its purpose is broad coverage, not a therapeutic dose of a single plant.

Why does the formula include ginkgo, ginseng and saw palmetto?
Which vitamins and minerals does Men's Essentials contain?

There is no speculation in this section. All the claims below have been authorised by the European Commission following EFSA assessment, and the product meets the conditions for their use.1

Zinc is included in the formula at 15 mg, equivalent to 150 % of the daily reference intake, and has several authorised claims. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood, normal fertility and reproduction, normal protein synthesis and normal cognitive function. It also contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Magnesium is included at 84 mg, and its authorised claims relate to how you feel on a demanding day. Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, normal muscle function, normal psychological function and normal energy-yielding metabolism.

Vitamin C is included at 240 mg, equivalent to 300 % of the daily reference intake, and is one of the most versatile ingredients in the formula. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system, normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones, teeth, skin and gums, the protection of cells from oxidative stress and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. One more claim explains the thinking behind the formula: vitamin C increases iron absorption. It is no coincidence that both ingredients are in the same tablet, or that it contains 240 mg of vitamin C rather than a token 12.

Iron is included in the formula at 14,5 mg. It contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, normal oxygen transport in the body, normal energy-yielding metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

The pair iodine and chromium, each at 150 µg, covers two further areas. Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function, while chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels and normal macronutrient metabolism.

B vitamins are all represented, at doses ranging from 200 to 400 % of the daily reference intake. Vitamins B2, niacin, B6, B9 and B12 contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamins B1, B2, niacin, B6, biotin and B12 contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism and the normal functioning of the nervous system. Vitamin B6 also contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity.

That leaves the four vitamins A, D3, E and K2. Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, vitamin E to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, vitamin D to the maintenance of normal bones and normal muscle function, and vitamin K to the maintenance of normal bones.

The forms of the last two are worth noting. Vitamin D is included as D3, or cholecalciferol, and vitamin K as K2 in the form of menaquinone MK-7. A cheaper option would be D2 and K1, which are formally acceptable and significantly less expensive.

Laboratory testing

Heavy metals were measured using ICP-MS in accordance with DIN EN 15763 – inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, the most sensitive commonly available technique for determining metals in food. The sample complies with Regulation (EU) 2023/9153 on maximum levels of contaminants.

For a multivitamin containing six plant extracts, this testing is particularly informative. Plants absorb not only nutrients from the soil, but also other substances present in it, and in concentrated extracts, any contaminants are concentrated alongside the active substances.

Which vitamins and minerals does Men's Essentials contain?

Who is Men's Essentials for?

  • For men who want one product instead of five. Twelve vitamins, five minerals and six extracts in two tablets a day – instead of separate tubs.
  • People with demanding work and training schedules. Vitamins B2, niacin, B6, B9, B12, magnesium, iron and vitamin C contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.1
  • Active men focused on recovery and performance. Zinc contributes to normal protein synthesis and the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood, while magnesium contributes to normal muscle function.1
  • Those who want reassurance about purity. The batch was tested in an accredited German laboratory using ICP-MS.
  • What are the benefits of taking Men's Essentials?

    • Testosterone and fertility. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood and normal fertility and reproduction, while vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity.1
    • Energy-yielding metabolism. Vitamins B1, B2, niacin, B6, biotin and B12, together with magnesium, iron and iodine, contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism.1
    • Immune system. As many as eight ingredients in the formula contribute to the normal function of the immune system: vitamins C, D, A, B6, B12, folate, zinc and iron.1
    • Muscles and bones. Magnesium and vitamin D contribute to normal muscle function, while vitamins D and K, magnesium and zinc contribute to the maintenance of normal bones.1
    • Brain and psychological function. Zinc, iron and iodine contribute to normal cognitive function, while vitamins B1, B6, B12, niacin, biotin, folate, magnesium and vitamin C contribute to normal psychological function.1
    • Cell protection. Vitamins C, E, B2 and zinc contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.1
    • Skin and hair. Biotin and zinc contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, while vitamins A, B2, niacin, biotin and zinc contribute to the maintenance of normal skin.1
    • DigeZyme® digestive enzymes. The daily dose contains 20 mg of the DigeZyme® multi-enzyme complex with five enzymes. Each is named after the substance it breaks down: alpha-amylase breaks down starch, protease proteins, lipase fats, lactase lactose and cellulase cellulose.
    • Thoughtfully selected ingredient forms. Magnesium and zinc are in bisglycinate form: chelates in which the mineral is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. Vitamin D is in the form of D3 (cholecalciferol), which the body produces naturally in the skin through exposure to sunlight. Vitamin K is in the form of K2 as menaquinone MK-7, which remains in the blood significantly longer than vitamin K1 and reaches more stable levels with regular use.10 Vitamin E is natural D-alpha-tocopherol, rather than a synthetic mixture of eight isomers, only one of which corresponds to the natural form.

    Dosage and directions for use

The daily dose is 2 tablets. The 120-tablet pack contains 60 doses, and the 240-tablet pack contains 120 doses. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

    • Take 2 tablets daily with plenty of water.
    • With food. The formula contains fat-soluble vitamins – A, D3, E and K2 – which are better absorbed when taken with a meal containing fat.
    • You can split the dose. Take one tablet in the morning and the other with lunch if that suits you better than taking both at once.
