Vitamin C 1000 mg – an essential vitamin with rosehip extract, laboratory-verified quality and 1250 % NRV in every tablet

One tablet of Vitamin C 1000 mg from GymBeam contains 1000 mg of vitamin C, providing 1250 % of the nutrient reference value (NRV; RHP in Czech), and 50 mg of rosehip fruit extract (Rosa canina).⁴ The active ingredient is L-ascorbic acid, the basic form of vitamin C, which is considered the gold standard in supplementation and serves as the benchmark for all other forms of vitamin C in scientific literature. Product quality is guaranteed by independent laboratory tests, with results available in the Laboratory tests section.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. The body cannot store it and simply excretes any excess in urine. Vitamin C therefore needs to be replenished regularly through a varied diet or supplementation.

What does vitamin C do in the body?

Although vitamin C is currently being studied in relation to many areas of human health, we do not want to make any claims that lack reliable scientific evidence. We therefore list only officially approved health claims authorised by Commission Regulation (EU) No 432/2012 following assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).¹

Immunity, even during exercise

Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Athletes will also appreciate this benefit during and after intense physical exercise. This claim is conditional on an intake of 200 mg of vitamin C in addition to the recommended daily intake of 80 mg.⁴ One tablet comfortably covers both the basic intake and the additional intake required for this effect.¹ This is useful especially from autumn to spring, when the body typically faces greater demands.

Collagen for bones, cartilage, skin and teeth

Vitamin C supports normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth.¹ The reason lies in enzyme activity. Vitamin C is a cofactor for enzymes that form bonds within the collagen molecule to hold its triple helix together. Without it, the body can still produce collagen, but it will not be stable. Vitamin C therefore also has an established role as a joint support and beauty supplement.

Fatigue, mental function and energy

Vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to normal nervous system and psychological function, and also supports the body's energy balance (normal energy-yielding metabolism).¹

Cell protection and iron absorption

Vitamin C is an antioxidant and therefore contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to the regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E.¹ It also increases iron absorption, a benefit for anyone who pays attention to getting enough iron, including vegetarians and vegans. Iron from plant sources is less readily absorbed than iron from animal sources.¹

Vitamin C and physical exertion

Vitamin C is studied in athletes for its antioxidant role and its role in immune system function during intense exercise. Here is what the available meta-analyses show.

A Cochrane meta-analysis examined five randomised controlled trials involving 598 marathon runners, skiers and soldiers on subarctic exercises—groups exposed to short periods of extreme physical exertion. Taking vitamin C at doses of 0,25 to 1 g daily was associated with a lower incidence of colds in these groups. In the general population, the same doses had no effect on the incidence of colds.⁷

A meta-analysis of 18 randomised controlled trials involving 313 participants examined the body's response to a single exercise session. In the vitamin C supplementation groups, there were lower markers of lipid peroxidation and a smaller rise in interleukin 6 immediately after exercise and during the following two hours. No effect was found on creatine kinase, CRP, cortisol, muscle soreness or muscle strength.⁵

Note: These studies describe the results of specific clinical trials of vitamin C, not a tested effect of this product.

What makes GymBeam Vitamin C different from standard products?

With food supplements, what matters is whether the tablet contains what the label says—and whether anyone has measured it. Here are 5 things we do differently:

  • Vitamin C undergoes independent laboratory testing for active ingredient content, heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury) and microbiological safety (salmonella, coliform bacteria, yeasts and moulds). Active ingredient content is measured by the accredited laboratory GBA Hamburg (DAkkS D-PL-14170-01-00). Heavy metals and microbiological safety are then checked by a second independent laboratory, Labor Dr. Scheller in Augsburg (DAkkS D-PL-19230-01-00).
  • We publish test reports dating back to 2021. These are not one-off tests for the product launch, but repeated checks across batches. You can find them right here on this page in the Laboratory Tests section.
  • We manufacture the tablets in-house at a facility with ISO 9001 certification and a HACCP system.
  • An extra-strength dose of vitamin C with added rosehip extract. One tablet provides 1000 mg of vitamin C, while standard tablets typically contain around 500 mg. For a more comprehensive formula, it also contains 50 mg of rosehip fruit extract with an extraction ratio of 4:1, equivalent to 200 mg of the raw material.
  • The product is gluten-free, lactose-free, GMO-free and suitable for vegans. It contains none of the 14 major allergens.
What makes GymBeam Vitamin C different from standard products?

Who is Vitamin C 1000 mg suitable for?

1. People who want to keep track of their vitamin C intake over winter.
One tablet a day covers your recommended intake.

2. Athletes and active people.
Vitamin C contributes to maintaining the normal function of the immune system during and after intense physical exercise.¹ It may therefore help you stay in the game longer without a forced break.

3. People with demanding work or study schedules.
They will appreciate vitamin C's ability to help reduce tiredness and fatigue and support normal psychological function.¹

4. Vegans and vegetarians.
Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron, which is plentiful in a plant-based diet but less readily available to the body.¹

5. Smokers.
Smoking increases the metabolic turnover of vitamin C, so smokers are advised to consume an additional 35 mg daily.⁶

6. People on a weight-loss diet or receiving GLP-1 treatment.
A weight-loss diet carries a risk of reduced intake of a range of essential micronutrients, including vitamin C. This makes it all the more important to pay attention to your intake.

Who is Vitamin C 1000 mg suitable for?
When should you take vitamin C?

Take 1 tablet daily with plenty of water. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

  • Take with food if you have a sensitive stomach.
Ascorbic acid is acidic and may cause irritation in some people when taken on an empty stomach. Taking it with food generally avoids this problem.
  • You can split the tablet.
It is large and can be broken in half. If you take it in two parts several hours apart, more of the total dose will be absorbed than if you swallow it all at once. Smaller doses are absorbed better than a single large dose.³
  • Do not hold it in your mouth.
It is not a lozenge; concentrated ascorbic acid can irritate the lining of the mouth.
  • The time of day does not matter.
Vitamin C is not a stimulant and does not affect sleep. Consistency matters, not timing.
  • You can take it with iron.
Vitamin C increases iron absorption, so take both at the same time.¹
  • All year round or seasonally.
The body does not store vitamin C, so taking it every day makes sense. If you prefer to take it only over winter, that is fine too.

Composition and dosage

Dosage

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the population reference intake for vitamin C is around 95 mg for women and 110 mg for men.² The nutrient reference value used on labels is 80 mg.⁴ Take 1 tablet of GymBeam Vitamin C daily. This provides 1000 mg, equivalent to 1250 % of the nutrient reference value (NRV).

However, vitamin C requirements vary depending on lifestyle. Smokers have a higher metabolic turnover of vitamin C, so their recommended daily intake is 35 mg higher than that of non-smokers.⁶ People with a high training volume also tend to have greater requirements, and a separate authorised health claim applies to them, provided they consume 200 mg above the recommended intake.¹

If you have any concerns about the appropriate dosage due to your health, pregnancy, breastfeeding or any medication you are taking, we recommend consulting a doctor or dietitian before using this food supplement. This product is not intended for children.

Not bad, but it could come in a larger package size as well. In terms of the tablet price per unit, it is completely fair. It also contains a rosehip extract, and the ingredients are truly well
Most Beneficial Negative Review of Product

When the tablet reaches saliva, a reaction similar to that of effervescent tablets begins. I can't keep it in my mouth in the same place for more than 3 seconds. I ended up with a burned tongue—red
