Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte – a unique combination of high-dose vitamin D3 and vitamin K in 2 forms
Does it make sense to take vitamin D and vitamin K together as a supplement?

Our bodies can produce vitamin D, but they need enough UV radiation from sunlight to do so.1 However, outside summer, sunlight in Europe may be insufficient for vitamin D synthesis for much of the year. We can also get vitamin D from our everyday diet. Its main sources include oily sea fish, eggs and foods specifically fortified (enriched) with vitamin D.2 Despite this, up to 40 % of the European population has insufficient blood levels of vitamin D.3

Vitamin K occurs in our diet in two main forms. Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) is relatively abundant in foods such as leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables (spinach, kale, broccoli). Vitamin K2 (menaquinone), on the other hand, occurs naturally mainly in fermented foods such as Japanese natto and certain matured cheeses, which are not typically part of the European diet.4 Even with an otherwise varied and balanced diet, there is therefore a risk of insufficient vitamin K2 intake.

But why take vitamins D and K together? Vitamin D supports the absorption of calcium into the blood, but an adequate intake of vitamin K is also needed to direct it properly into the bones. This is why vitamin D and vitamin K are often discussed together in scientific literature as nutrients that complement each other in calcium metabolism.5,6,7

For those who are unsure whether they get enough of both vitamins and want to give their bone health the best possible support, Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte is the clear choice.

Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte GymBeam: 4 features we focused on during development that set it apart from the competition

1. An effective form of vitamin D3 combined with two forms of vitamin K

Vitamin D is found in everyday foods and supplements as animal-derived cholecalciferol (D3) and plant-derived ergocalciferol (D2). Studies conclude that our bodies convert cholecalciferol into the active form of vitamin D more efficiently than ergocalciferol.8 This is why we chose this form for our product.

Both vitamin D and vitamin K are lipophilic, or fat-soluble, vitamins, so taking them alongside fat helps support optimal absorption.9 That is why we put the vitamins in a softgel capsule containing a small amount of sunflower oil to help their absorption.

2. Dual-form vitamin K – phylloquinone and menaquinone to cover the full range of benefits

EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), an authority on human nutrition, considers vitamin K a single substance and does not distinguish between getting more vitamin K1 or K2 in your diet, because there is currently no evidence that an adequate intake of just one form would fail to support all of vitamin K's functions in the body. However, a closer look at their metabolism reveals that the two forms behave slightly differently.10

Phylloquinone has a short biological half-life, and the body preferentially uses it straight away in the liver to produce factors that contribute to normal blood clotting. Menaquinone, on the other hand, leaves the bloodstream more slowly and reaches tissues outside the liver, such as bones, to a greater extent. Some studies suggest that menaquinone (K2) activates osteocalcin, a protein essential for depositing calcium in bones, more effectively than phylloquinone (K1). However, EFSA states that the available data are not yet sufficient to attribute different effects on different areas of health to the two forms of vitamin K.10 This is precisely why Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte combines both forms of vitamin K: to cover both its role in blood clotting and its contribution to maintaining normal bones, regardless of which form of vitamin K plays the greater part.

Vitamin K2 is also provided in the premium chemical form menaquinone-7 (MK-7), as the all-trans isomer. The product contains no cis-menaquinone-7 isomer.

3. An effective and safe dose of both vitamin D3 and vitamin K

For vitamin D3, we chose a dose of 100 µg (4000 IU), providing 2000 % of the nutrient reference value (NRV). This dose also corresponds to the upper limit for safe long-term daily intake for a healthy adult, as currently established by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority).11 In general, this is therefore the highest dose suitable for long-term use, provided you are not also getting vitamin D from other dietary sources or supplements.

Tip: If you are unsure about your vitamin D dosage, we recommend having a laboratory blood test to measure your vitamin D 25(OH)D level, then working with a doctor or dietitian to determine the ideal vitamin D dose for you.

A daily dose of 200 µg of vitamin K, providing 267 % of the NRV, safely covers the recommended daily intake (100 % = 75 µg). No upper limit for safe long-term daily intake has been established for vitamin K. The available data have not shown adverse effects in healthy adults even at high intakes (up to 10 mg daily for 1 month).10 The exception is people taking medicines that affect blood clotting, which you can read more about in the Dosage and Use section.

4. Quality and safety under third-party oversight

The product is tested by an independent laboratory for its vitamin D3, K1 and K2 content. Safety testing, including microbiological and heavy metal screening, is also an integral part of this process. Our results for Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte GymBeam are openly available in the “Laboratory Tests” section.

Why does the body need vitamin D and vitamin K?

Although vitamin D and vitamin K are currently being studied in relation to many areas of human health, we do not want to make any claims that are not reliably supported by science. We therefore list only officially approved health claims.12

1. Immune system

Vitamin D supports normal immune system function. This makes it one of the most closely monitored micronutrients, especially during the colder months when the body faces greater exposure to bacteria and viruses.

2. Absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus

Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus. These are essential components of the structure of bones and teeth.

3. Healthy bones and teeth

Vitamin D contributes to maintaining healthy bones and teeth, while vitamin K contributes to maintaining healthy bones. This benefits growing children, people recovering from illness or injury, athletes and older adults alike.

4. Cell division

Vitamin D also plays a role in cell division, a process essential to maintaining the function of cells, tissues and organs. This process takes place throughout life and is crucial for maintaining health.

5. Muscle function

Vitamin D contributes to maintaining normal muscle function. This is important for all athletes, as well as active older adults, for example.

6. Blood clotting

Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting, the natural process by which the body stops bleeding.

Why does the body need vitamin D and vitamin K?

Who is Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte suitable for?

1. People who do not regularly eat fermented foods or oily sea fish. The main natural sources of vitamin K2, such as natto and certain matured cheeses, and oily fish rich in vitamin D are not typically part of most people's diets in Europe.

2. Athletes and active people, because vitamin D plays a role in normal muscle function and calcium metabolism. Both vitamins D and K also contribute to maintaining healthy bones, all of which are factors that have a significant impact on athletic performance.

3. People who prioritise bone health. Vitamin D and vitamin K are among the nutrients with a proven effect on bone health. Women going through menopause and older adults should therefore take particular care to ensure an adequate intake.

4. People with limited sun exposure over the long term. Office work, city living, shift work. Just because it is summer and the sun is shining all day does not automatically mean your vitamin D levels are sufficient if you actually spend most of the day indoors. To get the clearest possible picture of your health, we recommend having your vitamin D level measured and, if it is low, starting appropriate supplementation even during the summer months.

5. People on a weight-loss diet or taking GLP-1 medications. A weight-loss diet carries a risk of reduced intake of a wide range of vitamins and minerals. It is therefore especially important to pay attention to your intake of these nutrients, including vitamins D and K, while dieting.

Composition and dosage

Dosage

Take 1 capsule daily. As both vitamin D and vitamin K are fat-soluble, it is best to take the capsule with a meal containing fat to support their absorption. For maximum effectiveness, do not take on an empty stomach.

There are several ways to include Vitamin D3+K1+K2 Forte GymBeam in your daily supplement routine.

  • In the morning with breakfast. It fits naturally into your daily routine, giving you one less thing to think about right from the start of the day.
  • With your main meal of the day (lunch). If your breakfast is mostly carbohydrates with almost no fat, it may make more sense to take this supplement with a meal containing more fat to support optimal absorption of both vitamins.
  • Year-round, especially from autumn to spring. Vitamin D supplementation makes the most sense during periods of limited sunlight. However, it should primarily be guided by your current blood vitamin D level. Vitamins K1 and K2, on the other hand, can be supplemented over the long term if your regular diet does not provide enough of them.
  • If you take medicines that affect blood clotting (known as anticoagulants, such as warfarin-based medicines), we strongly recommend consulting a doctor before taking this product. Vitamin K may reduce the effectiveness of these medicines.
  • If you have any other concerns about the appropriate dosage due to your health condition, pregnancy, breastfeeding or other medicines you take, we recommend discussing the use of this supplement with a doctor or dietitian. This product is not intended for children.

Considering that it is a daily essential vitamin for the entire family, I do not understand why there is no 240-capsule version, as with the standard Vitamin D option—the containers are the same size.
