Energy Shot – a shot with caffeine from three sources, including guarana and green tea, enriched with magnesium and B vitamins for fast, long-lasting energy

Energy Shot is a quick and effective way to boost energy and performance without mixing powders or drinking large volumes of liquid. It is a ready-to-drink energy drink (RTD) in an ampoule that you can keep with you and take exactly when you need it most. At the heart of this product is 150 mg of caffeine, roughly equivalent to a double espresso. Caffeine is a well-known nervous system stimulant, increasing alertness, supporting concentration and helping improve physical performance. A review of 21 meta-analyses published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine confirmed that caffeine demonstrably improves muscle function, endurance, and both aerobic and anaerobic performance – in trained athletes and the general population alike (9). The effects of caffeine are synergistically supported by extracts of guarana and green tea, which ensure a more gradual, steadier supply of energy without a sudden crash. The blend is enriched with magnesium and vitamins B3 and B6. Following scientific assessment, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) confirmed that these three micronutrients play a key role in converting nutrients into usable energy (ATP) and demonstrably contribute to reducing subjective feelings of exhaustion and muscle fatigue (12).

What's Inside Energy Shot?

Guarana Extract

Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is a perennial climbing vine native to the central Amazon in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, domesticated by the indigenous Sateré-Mawé centuries before the first European record (1, 2, 3). Traditionally, its roasted seeds are shaped into cylinders and grated against the rough, dried tongue of the pirarucu fish (Arapaima gigas) to prepare a drink called çapó (3). This is also where the guarana extract in our Energy Shot comes from.

Guarana seeds contain typically 3 – 6 % caffeine, several times more than coffee beans (0,8 – 2 %) (1, 4), making guarana one of the most concentrated natural sources of caffeine. In addition to caffeine, guarana contains a rich spectrum of tannins and catechins (5), which form part of its characteristic phytochemical profile. A systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2023 in the journal Nutrients confirmed that taking guarana improves reaction time when performing cognitive tasks (10).

Green Tea and Its Caffeine

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is the second plant-based source of caffeine in our product. While guarana contributes to gradual release, green tea offers a gentler profile. This is because caffeine in green tea does not occur alone in nature – it is accompanied by L-theanine, an amino acid that is almost unique to the genus Camellia and gives green tea its distinctive umami flavour and characteristic psychoactive profile (7).

Together with caffeine, it produces a state described in neuropsychological literature as calm alertness – a relaxed yet alert state: reaction time improves and concentration increases, without feeling jittery (8). A systematic review confirmed that the combination of green tea constituents and caffeine improves attention, accuracy when performing tasks, and subjective alertness in healthy adults (11). L-theanine is therefore not the primary driver of the effect, but works naturally with caffeine. This is precisely why we chose green tea extract as one of the three sources of caffeine in our product.

Anhydrous Caffeine

Without a plant matrix, anhydrous caffeine is released the fastest of all three ingredients. It is absorbed in the small intestine and takes approximately 45 minutes to reach full bioavailability, without burdening the liver with the so-called “first-pass effect” (13). A clinical study by Liguori and colleagues clearly demonstrated how much the form of administration matters: caffeine dissolved in liquid reached peak concentration in just 39 – 42 minutes, while the same dose in a solid capsule took as long as 67 minutes (14). Our 60 ml shot is therefore an ideal format for a quick start – most people will feel the initial effects, such as increased alertness and concentration, within just 15 – 45 minutes of drinking it, depending on their individual metabolism.

Green Tea and Its Caffeine
Why Three Sources?

Each source of caffeine works on a different timeline:

  • Pure caffeine – kicks in after 15 – 20 min, wears off within 3 hours
  • Guarana – takes effect more slowly, lasts 5 – 6 hours
  • Green tea – the slowest-acting ingredient, with L-theanine acting as a “brake” on nervousness

The combination of three sources in Energy Shot therefore works as a three-phase system: anhydrous caffeine provides an immediate initial boost within the first quarter of an hour, caffeine from guarana is released more gradually and prolongs the effect (5, 7), and caffeine from green tea contributes to a smoother pattern of alertness. The result is a steadier energy curve without the sharp spike and crash typical of single-ingredient products.

Why Three Sources?

It’s really disgusting—sour and bitter—but there’s only a little bit, so I had it in one go. It has an effect, but I don’t know whether I want to drink this before training; the aftertaste lingers in
